I read a few issues here and there and got the high points (especially that Terrax issue, which was awesome enough for me to get over why I stated away, at least for an issue) but not enough to connect together or get a sense of it overall. It's probably his best work -- writing and drawing -- and I missed it. But there are some collections of it (like the Omnibus of his Avengers stuff that just came out, much to my surprise and elation) so maybe I have a chance (if I can commit to such a run now). I think he left it abruptly, like with most of his stuff. One month he just wasn't on it. That seems to happen with a lot of continued runs on comics anyway, especially these days with creators shuffled quickly on and off of books.

The biggest problem with those Modern Masters books is that they don't go into much depth with anything. They don't even go in deep with the art, so they're splitting the difference between two limited resources. And especially with a creator like Byrne who has done such an immense amount of work over many years, each project was skimmed, if they even got around to it in the first place. For any depth into a project The Comics Journal probably offers a better interview, and surely Byrne has been in there at some point in his career. I'd read that.Marlan Harrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10156960102482485529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9125820277203006206.post-43870750365993064682018-01-10T14:26:00.371-08:002018-01-10T14:26:00.371-08:00I thought the John Byrne run on FF was very good. ...I thought the John Byrne run on FF was very good. I was buying the issues monthly back in the day and each was a fun read. He took the book back to its roots. He left from the book suddenly, Ditkoesque. Did that volume have anything to say about that? I'd be interested to know.Zarkohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15888768080325153297noreply@blogger.com
